The Short Version…

My name is Jenn Givler and I’m a Yoga & Energized Living Educator.

I teach Blended Yoga classes, workshops and retreats, online and throughout the Philadelphia, PA area.

I’m passionate about yoga because the practice saved my life. No kidding.

I spent the better part of my life believing I wasn’t good enough… believing my opinions and thoughts were wrong… hiding my true self… changing who I was to fit in with everyone… being afraid of being the outcast… never feeling content.

This was the cause of my chronic life-long depression, having some pretty toxic relationships, the pre-mature end of some really great relationships, bouncing between 12 jobs in 4 years – all of which I hated, feeling disconnected from my life, and ultimately, a 70 pound weight gain.

Through yoga, I was able to not only find myself, but reclaim myself, and now – I live everyday authentically. I feel empowered, strong, energized, and deeply content.

Blended Yoga is the result of the journey I went through. Yoga can help you too, and I’d be thrilled to show you how.

My Credentials

I’ve been in the fitness industry since 1993. I’ve taught dance, and many different fitness programs including kickboxing, step, dance-based aerobics, bootcamp, cardio interval, strength training, Pilates, and Yoga. And, I’ve worked with clients in small groups and 1 on 1.

I completed my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training with the YogaLife Institute and am Registered with the Yoga Alliance (RYT-200).

I’m passionate about the brain/body connection, and how what we do in our body affects our emotional and mental state. As a result, I study anatomy with Tom Meyer, and Leslie Kaminoff.

I’ve been studying with Sadie Nardini since 2011, and I’m about to finish my Core Strength Vinyasa Yoga certification (2/1/2012)

What brought me to this point in the journey…

I started dancing and doing aerobics when I was just 4 years old. My mom laughs when she tells the story of me in my first aerobics class. She says I would go right when everyone was going left. And I had zero coordination. All I knew was, it was fun, and I loved it!

As I got older, I got more serious about dance. I studied ballet, tap, jazz and eventually focused on contemporary.

I’ve always loved fitness and dance. Movement is a way for me to clear my head, de-stress, and re-energize.

However, life hasn’t been all fun and dancing…

In 2009, I realized that I was suffering from depression; I had been suffering from it almost my entire life. What I didn’t realize was that, dance and fitness was keeping it relatively at bay. When I got pregnant and stopped all of that, that’s when the depression took over.

My depression was the source of self-sabotage, needing near constant validation/permission from others, mental fog, and low self-esteem. I always felt lethargic and generally just disconnected from my life. I had this sense of wanting “something else…” I couldn’t really put my finger on what that “something else” was, but it was an always present under-current in my life…

Below is a picture of me from January 2009.

In the spring of 2009, I assisted best selling author Jen Louden during her Get Back Your Life Retreat at the Kripalu Yoga Center. This wonderful retreat was the catalyst that helped me see who I was, and gave me the strength to move forward.

After Kripalu, I was determined to make big changes.

I remembered my passion of helping people find their way to fitness. And I found my passion for helping people see how strong they really are – physically and mentally.

I started J. Givler Fitness in June of 2009, and I’ve never looked back.

Fitness and yoga were instrumental in helping me work through my depression. My favorite workouts are Crossfit, Kettlebells, and Yoga (particularly Vinyassa, Anusara, Asthanga, and Yin).

I’m so glad you found your way here, and I look forward to getting to know you and doing whatever I can to help you your journey!
